Zenna Home tension shower rods: the NeverRust line, its ranges and what the warranty covers

Zenna Home sells tension shower rods in straight, curved and double-curved versions. Its curved tension rods are listed as adjustable from 50 to 72 inches, which covers most tub alcoves, and many models carry “Rustproof” in the name. Read that with its scope: the NeverRust warranty, as retailers quote it, promises no red rust, not freedom from every kind of corrosion.

The short version

For a tub alcove of 50 to 72 inches, the Zenna Home curved tension rod is our pick, with a double-curved version for curtain and liner. Zenna also makes straight tension rods from 27 to 88 inches. Zenna publishes no load rating. “NeverRust” means no red rust under the warranty as retailers quote it; white oxidation and steel screws or springs are not covered.

Who is behind Zenna Home

Zenna Home is a bath and home brand that sells shower rods, shower curtains and liners, hooks, caddies, medicine cabinets and window rods. On its own homepage Zenna describes itself as part of Mayzon, a home goods company with roots in the 1920s. For tension shower rods it is one of the few brands with its own product pages, which is why its rods can be compared on maker data rather than on listing titles. What those pages state: model names, width ranges and finishes. What they do not state: load ratings, tube diameters and, for most models, the material.

Our pick: the Zenna curved tension rod

Our pick for curved showersAd

Zenna Home

Zenna Home curved 50–72 in

An aluminum curved shower rod that holds by tension across the usual 50 to 72 inches of a tub alcove.

Why here: Zenna lists its curved tension rods as adjustable from 50 to 72 inches – a far wider fit window than Moen's 57 to 60 inch curved rod.

Best for: Standard tub alcoves where you want more elbow room without drilling

  • Adjusts from 50 to 72 inches – a far wider window than Moen’s 57–60 in curved rod
  • Aluminum: the NeverRust warranty promises no red rust for the original purchaser’s lifetime
  • The curve moves the curtain away from you in the tub
  • “Never rust” covers red rust only – not white oxidation, pitting or steel screws and springs
  • No load rating published
  • A curved rod has more parts to fit than a straight one; plan two people for installation

A curved rod bows outward over the tub so the curtain hangs further from you. Most curved tension rods need a near-exact width; Moen's CSR2172 fits 57 to 60 inches only. Zenna's 50 to 72 inch range is the main reason this rod is our pick for curved showers: you can order it for most standard tub alcoves without hitting a narrow window.

Our product card describes this rod as aluminum, based on retailer descriptions of the NeverRust line. Zenna's own curved-rod list does not name the material, so treat “aluminum” as retailer data. Zenna states no load rating. Installation is easier with two people, because the bow has to sit level while you set the tension. The step-by-step version is in how to install a tension shower rod.

Double curved: curtain and liner apart

Zenna Home

Zenna Home double curved 50–72 in

Two curved tension rods on one set of end flanges: one for the curtain, one for the liner, for 50 to 72 inch alcoves.

Best for: Tub alcoves of 50 to 72 inches where curtain and liner should hang on separate curves

  • Zenna lists the tension double curved rod as adjustable from 50 to 72 inches
  • Curtain and liner hang on separate rods
  • Same range as Zenna’s single curved tension rod
  • Zenna states no load rating and, on its own product list, no material for this model
  • “Rustproof” is Zenna’s product wording; the NeverRust warranty covers red rust only

The double-curved tension rod carries two curved tubes between one pair of wall flanges, so the decorative curtain and the liner each get their own rod. Zenna lists it for the same 50 to 72 inch range. Zenna names no material for this model on its list and no load figure. Bob Vila covered the NeverRust double-curved rod in its shower rod roundup and also gives no capacity for it. A second curve also means a little more weight on the end flanges than a single rod, which makes a flat, dry tile face under both flanges even more important.

Tension or screws: the dual-mount rods

Zenna's dual-mount curved rods cover 50 to 72 inches and can be tension-mounted or screwed to the wall. The matte-black Zenna curved rod sold for tension or permanent mount* matches that line by name, range and finish; our product data for it comes from the listing title only. A dual-mount rod is a sensible choice if you rent now but may want to screw the rod in later, or if your tile is too narrow or uneven for the end caps. Screwing into tile needs the right drill bit and anchors; follow Zenna's instructions or ask a handyman.

What “Rustproof” and NeverRust mean

Many Zenna rods have “Rustproof” in the product name, and the NeverRust warranty is the brand's selling point. As Ace Hardware and Home Depot Canada quote it, Zenna promises that the rods will be free from red rust during the original purchaser's lifetime. The scope matters:

  • Covered: red rust, which is iron oxide.
  • Not covered by that wording: white oxidation on aluminum, pitting, and steel parts such as springs and screws inside the rod.

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot form red rust, but it can oxidise white. Stainless steel is the other common choice for wet rooms; our comparison of aluminum vs. stainless shower rods explains when 304 stainless can tea-stain, and shower rod rust covers what to do when a rod has started to corrode.

Strengths and weaknesses of the brand

Speaks for it

  • Own product pages with model names, ranges and finishes
  • Curved tension rods with a wide 50 to 72 inch range
  • Tension, dual-mount and permanent-mount versions of the curved rod
  • Straight tension rods from stall size (27 in) to 88 in

Speaks against it

  • No load rating published for any tension rod we read
  • Material stated only for the aluminum stall-size rods
  • “Rustproof” and NeverRust cover red rust, not every kind of corrosion
  • No tube diameters on the product lists

Who Zenna Home suits

Zenna suits you if your alcove measures anywhere between 50 and 72 inches and you want a curved rod without drilling. It also suits renters who want the option to screw a dual-mount rod in later. It suits you less if you need a published load figure, for example for a heavy fabric curtain plus a liner: Zenna states none. In that case keep the load to the curtain and liner, and read whether a tension rod can hold a shower curtain and liner.

Alternatives to Zenna

The closest alternative is Moen's curved tension rod. Moen backs it with a limited lifetime warranty, but it fits 57 to 60 inches only. If your alcove falls exactly in that window and you want a Moen finish, see our Moen curved tension shower rod page.

If you are not sure you want a curve at all, curved vs. straight shower rods compares the space gained and the fit range. All curved models with maker data are compared side by side in our curved tension shower rod guide, and the tension shower curtain rod overview covers straight rods, rust and slipping.

Spare parts and warranty

Zenna's product lists do not name spare end caps or flanges. The only warranty wording we found is the NeverRust promise quoted by retailers. Keep the receipt and the packaging, because the warranty as quoted applies to the original purchaser. For a claim or replacement parts, contact Zenna Home through its website.

Questions people ask

Is the Zenna Home curved shower rod a tension rod?

Zenna makes both. Its “Rustproof Tension Curved Shower Rod” models are tension-mounted and adjustable from 50 to 72 inches. Zenna also sells dual-mount curved rods for 50 to 72 inches, which can be tension-mounted or screwed in, and a permanent-mount double-curved rod for 44 to 72 inches. Check the word “tension” or “dual-mount” in the product name before you buy.

Does the Zenna Home NeverRust rod really never rust?

The NeverRust warranty, as Ace Hardware and Home Depot Canada quote it, says the rods will be free from red rust for the original purchaser's lifetime. Red rust is iron oxide. The wording does not cover white oxidation on aluminum, pitting, or steel springs and screws inside the rod. Wipe the rod dry and rinse off bleach cleaners.

How much weight can a Zenna Home tension shower rod hold?

Zenna Home publishes no weight rating on the product lists we read, and Bob Vila also gives no figure for the Zenna double-curved rod it covers. There is no standard load capacity for tension rods. Plan for a curtain and a liner only, and do not hang towels or a caddy on the rod.

What size Zenna tension rod do I need?

Measure wall to wall at rod height and compare that figure with the range in the product name. The curved and double-curved tension rods cover 50 to 72 inches. For a stall shower Zenna lists straight tension rods of 27 to 40 inches, and for wider tubs straight rods up to 76 or 88 inches.
