Double curved tension shower rods: curtain and liner on two curves, no drilling
A double curved tension shower rod carries two bowed rods between one pair of wall flanges: the outer one for the decorative curtain, the inner one for the liner. Our pick is Zenna Home's tension double curved rod, which Zenna lists as adjustable from 50 to 72 inches. Zenna states no load rating, so the second curve is about keeping curtain and liner apart, not about carrying more.

The short version
Measure your alcove wall to wall at rod height. For 50 to 72 inches our pick is the Zenna Home tension double curved rod, listed by Zenna in chrome, bronze and nickel. It holds by tension, needs two people to fit and has no published load rating. If you only want elbow room, a single curved rod does that with fewer parts; if you want to screw it in, Zenna makes a permanent-mount double curved rod for 44 to 72 inches.

Zenna's product list names the rod “Rustproof Tension Double Curved Shower Rod, Adjustable, 50 to 72 Inches”. Zenna gives no material and no load figure on that list. Bob Vila's shower rod roundup lists the same Zenna rod as a tension rod in aluminum. Treat “Rustproof” as Zenna's product wording: the NeverRust warranty of Zenna's aluminum rods covers red rust only, not white oxidation, pitting or steel screws and springs.

What a double curved rod does – and what it does not
A double rod has an outer rod for the decorative curtain and an inner rod for the waterproof liner; that is how Bob Vila describes double rods. On a double curved rod both rods bow outward over the tub, so you get the elbow room of a curved tension shower rod and a liner that no longer drags the curtain with it.
What the second curve does not do is add grip. A tension rod holds because its end flanges press outward against the walls and friction carries the load. A double curved rod hangs both curves on the same two flanges. The load per flange is curtain, liner, hooks and the second rod itself. Whether a tension rod can carry a curtain and a liner at all is answered in can a tension rod hold a shower curtain and a liner: usually yes, but nobody publishes what the set weighs when wet.
There is no standard load capacity for tension rods, and Zenna states none for this model. Stay with the curtain and liner; no towels, no caddy hooks.
The models one by one
Zenna Home tension double curved rod, 50 to 72 inches
The range is the main reason to choose it: 50 to 72 inches covers most tub alcoves with room to spare, where a curved Moen rod fits only 57 to 60 inches. Zenna lists three finishes: chrome, bronze and nickel. Bob Vila names chrome, nickel and black for the rod in its roundup; go by Zenna's own list and check the finish on the listing before you buy. Bob Vila also lists “no option for drilled wall mounting” and the need for two people as drawbacks.
Speaks for it
- 50–72 in range per Zenna
- Curtain and liner on separate curves
- Holds by tension, no drilling
Speaks against it
- No load rating and no material on Zenna's list
- More parts to align than a single rod; plan two people
- Tension only: no screw-mount option on this model
Amazon carries the rod under two listings with the same title. We list the second one in case the first is out of stock or not in your finish:
Zenna Home double curved tension rod, second listing*Zenna Home curved tension rod, single curve
If the liner is not the issue, the single curved rod gives the same bow and the same 50 to 72 inch range with fewer parts. Zenna sells it in aluminum under the NeverRust name; it is our pick for curved showers.
Zenna Home
Zenna Home curved 50–72 in
An aluminum curved shower rod that holds by tension across the usual 50 to 72 inches of a tub alcove.
Why here: Same 50–72 inch range and the same outward bow with one rod instead of two – simpler to fit if you hang curtain and liner on shared hooks.
Best for: Standard tub alcoves where you want more elbow room without drilling
- Adjusts from 50 to 72 inches – a far wider window than Moen’s 57–60 in curved rod
- Aluminum: the NeverRust warranty promises no red rust for the original purchaser’s lifetime
- The curve moves the curtain away from you in the tub
- “Never rust” covers red rust only – not white oxidation, pitting or steel screws and springs
- No load rating published
- A curved rod has more parts to fit than a straight one; plan two people for installation

Moen CSR2172, single curve for 57 to 60 inches
Moen makes no double curved tension rod in our comparison. Its curved tension rod fits 57 to 60 inches only, installs without tools per Moen and carries a limited lifetime warranty; Moen's shop listed the chrome version as sold out on 22 Oct 2026. Details are on our Moen curved tension shower rod page.
Permanent mount: Zenna's double curved rod for 44 to 72 inches
Zenna also lists a “Double Curved Permanent-Mount Shower Rod, 44 to 72 Inches” in chrome. It is screwed to the wall, so it does not depend on friction. We have no Amazon listing of it in our comparison. When drilling is worth it is covered in tension vs fixed shower curtain rods.
Buying criteria
- Width. Measure wall to wall at rod height, at the front and further in, and use the smaller figure. It must fall inside 50 to 72 inches for the Zenna rod.
- Flat seats for both flanges. Each flange needs a flat, clean, dry face – not a grout line, a caulk bead or a rounded trim tile. See tension rods on tile.
- Wall and surround flush? Where a tub surround panel stands proud of the wall above it, the flange can only sit on one of the two. Bob Vila notes that a non-flush acrylic surround limited where the Zenna rod could go. Our page on tension rods on fiberglass and acrylic surrounds covers this.
- Height. The inner rod carries the liner, so both curtain and liner length set the height; the shower curtain rod height guide has the sum.
- Finish and material. “Rustproof” on a Zenna rod is the maker's wording; the shower rod rust page explains what red rust, white oxidation and steel parts mean for a bathroom rod.
Typical mistakes
- Buying a double rod to carry towels. Neither curve is a towel bar; extra weight hangs on the same two flanges.
- Measuring once at the tub rim. Alcove walls are rarely parallel; measure at rod height.
- Fitting it alone. Two curves have to bow evenly and sit level while the tension goes on.
- Expecting more grip from more tubes. A thicker or doubled tube fights sag, not slipping.
Rod finder
Question 1 of 4
Where does the rod go?
A tension rod needs two solid, opposing surfaces.
Bottom line
For a tub alcove of 50 to 72 inches where curtain and liner should hang apart, the Zenna Home tension double curved rod is our pick: the only double curved tension rod we found with a maker page, but with no load rating. If you only want elbow room, the single curved tension rod is simpler. All tension shower options are on the tension shower curtain rod overview.
Questions people ask
What is a double curved shower rod for?
It gives the curtain and the liner each a rod of their own. Bob Vila describes double shower rods as two parallel rods: an outer rod for a decorative curtain and an inner rod for a waterproof liner. Both curves bow outward, so you also get the extra elbow room of a curved rod.
Does a double curved tension rod hold more weight than a single rod?
No maker we found says so. Zenna Home publishes no load rating for its tension double curved rod. Both curves hang on the same two flanges, so the whole load still depends on the friction at those two contact points. Hang only the curtain and the liner, and keep towels off the rods.
What size double curved tension rod do I need?
Measure the alcove wall to wall at the height where the rod will sit, at the front and further in, and use the smaller figure. Zenna lists its tension double curved rod as adjustable from 50 to 72 inches, which covers the common 60-inch tub alcove. Outside that range it does not fit.
Is a double curved shower rod hard to install?
It takes more care than a straight rod. Bob Vila lists the need for two people as a drawback of the Zenna double curved rod. Both curves have to bow outward evenly and sit level while the tension is set, so one person holds the rod while the other sets the flanges.
