Moen curved tension shower rod: fits 57 to 60 inches only

Moen's curved tension shower rod, the CSR2172, is made for one width: 57 to 60 inches wall to wall. Inside that window it is the best-documented curved tension rod we found – Moen's spec sheet names a 1-inch stainless steel rod, and Moen gives a limited lifetime warranty. Outside it, the rod simply does not fit; a 50 to 72 inch rod is the better choice then.

The short version

Measure your alcove wall to wall at rod height. If it is 57 to 60 inches, the Moen CSR2172 fits: a 1-inch curved tension rod in chrome, brushed nickel or Old World Bronze, without tools, with a limited lifetime warranty. Moen states no load rating. For other widths take Zenna Home's 50–72 inch curved rod, or Moen's straight TR1000 for 44 to 72 inches.

Who is behind the rod

Moen is a faucet and shower brand based in North Olmsted, Ohio, and it sells tension shower rods next to its plumbing fixtures. That shows in the paperwork: Moen publishes a technical specification sheet for its curved tension rod, with dimensions and steel grades. Most curved rods on Amazon come with nothing but a listing title. If you want to compare all curved models first, start with our curved tension shower rod guide.

The CSR2172 is a curved rod that holds by tension between the two alcove walls. Moen says it installs without tools and needs no cutting, and decorative covers hide the mounting hardware. The spec drawing shows the bow about 5.8 inches out from the straight line between the flanges, and round flanges about 3.2 inches across. The bow is what gives you the elbow room.

The narrow range is the price for that bow. A 3-inch window means you must measure first: wall to wall at the height where the rod will sit, at the front edge of the tub, and use the smaller figure if the walls are not parallel. A 5-foot tub alcove does not automatically measure 57 to 60 inches. Our tension rod sizes guide shows how to measure.

The other two finishes have the same fit and warranty:

Note the material difference in the spec sheet: chrome and brushed nickel use type 304 stainless steel, Old World Bronze uses type 430.

Strengths and weaknesses

Speaks for it

  • Spec sheet with dimensions, diameter and steel grade – rare for tension rods
  • Limited lifetime warranty (Moen)
  • Tool-free installation, no cutting
  • Three finishes from one maker

Speaks against it

  • Fits 57 to 60 inches only
  • No weight rating anywhere
  • One product-page line says “adjusts up to 5'”, which contradicts the 57–60 in dimension
  • Moen's own shop showed variants as sold out on 22 Oct 2026

Who the Moen curved rod suits

  • A standard tub alcove that measures 57 to 60 inches, and you want a maker with a spec sheet and a warranty.
  • Bathrooms with Moen fixtures in chrome, brushed nickel or Old World Bronze, where the finish should match.

It does not suit alcoves outside that range, corner showers, or anyone who wants to adjust the rod across a wide range.

Straight instead of curved: the Moen TR1000

If you do not need the bow, Moen's straight TR1000 covers a much wider range. The spec sheet gives 44 to 72 inches and a 1-inch rod of type 201 stainless steel. You expand the rod to the far wall and twist the smaller section clockwise until it locks; the product page sums that up as “turn it three times to lock it in place”.

Alternatives outside 57 to 60 inches

Zenna Home lists its curved tension rods as adjustable from 50 to 72 inches, which covers most tub alcoves. The rods are aluminum, and Zenna's NeverRust warranty, as quoted by retailers, promises freedom from red rust for the original purchaser's lifetime; it does not cover white oxidation, pitting or steel screws and springs. Warranty, care and availability

Moen gives a limited lifetime warranty on the CSR2172 and the TR1000. Moen's TR1000 spec sheet asks you to clean the rod only with a soft damp cloth, dry it well and avoid commercial or abrasive cleaners; that is sound advice for the curved rod too. On 22 October 2026 Moen's shop listed the Old World Bronze curved rod as sold out and showed a sold-out note on the chrome page, while the Amazon listings were available. Questions people ask

What size is the Moen curved tension shower rod?

Moen gives the CSR2172 as 57 to 60 inches, both on the product page and on its technical specification sheet. One feature line on the product page says the rod “adjusts up to 5'”, which does not match; go by the 57 to 60 inch dimension. If your alcove measures less than 57 or more than 60 inches, this rod will not fit.

What is the Moen curved tension rod made of?

Moen's product pages only say “corrosion resistant”. Its CSR2172 specification sheet is more precise: the chrome and brushed-nickel rods are 22-gauge seamless type 304 stainless steel with 304 flanges, the Old World Bronze rod is type 430 stainless steel with type 443 flanges. The rod diameter is 1 inch.

How much weight does the Moen curved tension rod hold?

Moen states no weight rating for the CSR2172, neither on the product page nor on the spec sheet. There is no standard load capacity for tension rods, so plan for a curtain and a liner only and keep towels off the rod.

Does Moen make a straight tension shower rod?

Yes, the TR1000. Moen's spec sheet gives 44 to 72 inches and a 1-inch rod of type 201 stainless steel; you expand it and twist the smaller section clockwise until it locks.
