Where to buy tension rods: Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, Amazon and the makers' own shops
Tension rods are sold in most US big-box and home-improvement stores and online. Zenna Home names Walmart, Target, The Home Depot, Lowe's, Amazon and others as its retailers, and Target's own range is led by its Room Essentials rods. Stores cover the common sizes; for very short, very long, heavy-duty or curved rods, Amazon and the makers' own shops offer far more ranges.

The short version
For a standard window or tub, a big-box store is fine: Target's range showed Room Essentials spring curtain rods of 28–48 inches and shower tension rods for stalls and tubs, and Zenna Home sells through Walmart, Target, Home Depot and Lowe's. For openings over about 80 inches, curved rods or a specific maker, buy online, where ranges run from 16–38 to 51–165 inches.

What a store stocks changes often, and online stock pages do not always match the shelf. Everything in the table is what we could read on 22 Oct 2026.
Big-box stores: fine for standard sizes
For an ordinary window or a standard tub, a store rod usually does the job. Target's range, for example, showed spring tension curtain rods of 28 to 48 inches, which covers many inside-mount windows, and shower tension rods for stalls of 24 to 40 inches and tubs up to 72 inches. Zenna Home, one of the best-known shower-rod brands, names Walmart, Target, The Home Depot and Lowe's among the stores that carry its rods, along with Kohl's, Meijer, Menards, Wayfair, Bed Bath & Beyond and Amazon.
The advantage of a store is that you can read the whole package: the exact width range, the diameter and sometimes the material. Store rods rarely state a load rating, but that is true of most tension rods anywhere; there is no standard load capacity.
Online: for the sizes and types stores rarely stock
Three kinds of rods are much easier to find online:
- Very wide openings. For 83 to 123 inches, our pick is the ALLZONE AZ02L, with a 1.25-inch pole and a pin lock documented by ALLZONE. On ALLZONE's own shop it was sold out on 22 Oct 2026; the Amazon listing was available. More long rods are in the long tension rod guide.
- Curved shower rods. Curved rods need a near-exact fit; Zenna Home's curved tension rods cover 50 to 72 inches. See curved tension shower rods.
- Rods with a spec sheet. Moen publishes range, diameter and steel types for its TR1000 straight tension rod and sells it on moen.com; on Amazon we link the bronzed gold version.
ALLZONE
ALLZONE AZ02L 83–123 in
A thick 1.25-inch spring tension rod with a pin lock for wide window openings from about 7 to 10 feet.
Why here: For openings of 83 to 123 inches that most stores do not stock: ALLZONE documents the 1.25-inch pole and the pin lock on its own page.
Best for: Wide inside-mount windows, patio-door alcoves and room dividers between 83 and 123 inches
- 1.25-inch pole diameter per ALLZONE – a stiff tube for a long span
- Pin-lock length setting (ALLZONE: “Advanced Lock in System”) instead of a twist-only thread
- ALLZONE sells the same rod family from 28 to 160 inches, so the range can be matched to the opening
- ALLZONE publishes no weight rating – keep heavy blackout panels in mind
- Starts at 83 inches: useless for normal-width windows
- Out of stock in ALLZONE’s own shop on 22 Oct 2026 (Amazon listing available)
- Width range
- 83–123 in
- Mechanism
- Spring tension + pin lock
- Diameter
- 1.25 in

Before you go to the store
- Measure first. Measure the inside width at the top, middle and bottom and use the smallest figure; the tension rod sizes guide shows how.
- Take the number with you. The measured width must fall inside the range printed on the package.
- Check the rod's end caps if the package lets you see them; they are what touches your wall or frame.
- Check stock online for your local store; “near me” searches show the store, not always the shelf.
- Keep the receipt and packaging until the rod has stayed up for a few days.

Questions people ask
Does Walmart sell tension rods?
Yes. Walmart is one of the retailers Zenna Home lists for its shower rods, and Mainstays tension curtain rods, a brand sold at Walmart, are a frequent search. We could not read Walmart's current range online when we checked, so check the width range on the package in your store before buying.
Does Target have tension rods?
Yes. When we read Target's search results, they showed mainly Room Essentials rods: spring tension curtain rods of 28 to 48 inches, an adjustable stall-shower tension rod of 24 to 40 inches, black shower tension rods in 40, 60 and 72 inch sizes, and a heavy-duty tension curtain rod. Zenna Home also lists Target as a retailer.
Do Home Depot and Lowe's sell tension rods?
Both appear on Zenna Home's list of retailers, so its tension shower rods are sold there. Both sites blocked automated reading when we checked, so we cannot say which other brands and sizes they stock today. Use the store's online stock check before you drive there.
Is it better to buy a tension rod online or in a store?
In a store you can hold the rod, look at the end caps and read the full range on the package. Online you get far more ranges and maker data. For standard windows and tubs either works; for very wide openings, curved shower rods or rods with documented specs, online is the practical choice.
